Home dialysis gives patients the freedom to continue working or going to school, travel and take vacations, and have a more normal lifestyle following their ESRD diagnosis. Patients can dialyze in the comfort of their own home, at a time that is convenient for them, making dialysis a part of their life, not the central focus.
With home dialysis, patients may enjoy better health, quicker recovery times after treatment, a less restrictive diet, and have a higher quality of life.
Home dialysis is the therapy a majority of nephrologists and nurses would choose for themselves:
In a survey of 44 nephrologists and 101 dialysis nurses, 89% of the nurses would choose home dialysis for their own renal replacement therapy and 93% of the physicians surveyed stated they would choose home dialysis for themselves or family members.
