Protecting yourself from scams

Scams come in all shapes and sizes. Have you received an offer that seems too good to refuse, or a request to donate to a good cause? Perhaps an invitation to ‘befriend’ or connect with an online admirer? Scammers know how to press your buttons to get what they want.

Outsmart the scammers with the Checkout

We teamed up with the Checkout during Fraud Week to raise awareness about the common types of scams and what you can do to protect yourself.

About scams

Scams target people of all backgrounds, ages and income levels. Every year scams cost Australians millions of dollars and cause considerable non-financial harm.

The ACCC has seen the devastating effects scams can have on people and their families. One of the best ways to combat this type of fraud is to stay one step ahead of the scammers by being aware of scams and how to protect yourself.
